Our first competitions day saw great success…

Following our Intermediate ‘Just a Minute’ competition, we had our first Competitions Day on Sunday 3rd December 2017. This was held at the new venue of Wolverhampton University’s Telford Campus, which proved to be an ideal venue to host the day at. Thank you to Wolverhampton University for all their support and for kindly allowing us to use their fantastic venue.

On the Competitions Day, we held the Senior MACE Debating, Junior Speaking and Disco Dancing.

Junior Speaking

We had a record number of 7 teams entering the Junior Speaking competition this year, with an extremely high standard seen throughout. Thank you to Lucy Bower and Rhys Jones for judging the Junior Speaking Competition. Results are as follows:

1st – Dorrington YFC A Team

2nd – Alberbury YFC

3rd – Dorrington YFC B Team

4th – Whitchurch YFC

5th – Brown Clee YFC

Best Female Speaker - Maisie Evans (Alberbury YFC)

Best Male Speaker – Matt Ashley (Dorrington YFC)

Best Chair – Kate Ireland (Dorrington YFC)

Senior MACE Debating

The Senior Debating saw some tough competition, with clubs competing for the first time as well as clubs who had competed previously. Thanks, must go to our judges Stephen Evans, Jane Preece, Rachel Jones and Robert Bowdler for devoting their Sunday to judge our Senior Debating competition.

Disco Dancing

We saw an array of bright colours, patterns and flares hit the dance floor from all teams across the county. The costumes were just fantastic! Thank you to our judge Chrissie Stapleton who got the pleasure to watch all 10 dance routines, full of disco moves and lifts. Results for this competition are as follows:

1st – Newport YFC

2nd - Rushbury and Cardington YFC

3rd - Clun YFC

4th – Much Wenlock YFC

5th - Nesscliffe YFC

Congratulations and best of luck to Newport YFC, Rushbury and Cardington YFC, Dorrington YFC and Alberbury YFC who are going forward to represent Shropshire at the West Midland Area round. This round will be held at Staffordshire Showground on Sunday 4th February.

Finally, a huge thank you from the competitions top table to our stewards on the day who ensured the day ran so well.

Next on the competition’s calendar is the Senior Debating Final, Bowling and our second Competitions Day.
